We thank all the local educational institutions for their openness, empathy, and willingness to join and participate in this initiative by Fundación Pasos de Luz, which aims to promote the conscious inclusion of children with autism in the classroom.
Over several days we visited different local schools and colleges to deliver the book Volamos Juntos by psychologist and inclusive-education expert Andrea Villasmil. This book is intended to serve as a practical teaching tool to foster understanding of autism and inclusion in classrooms from an early age.
We held a short discussion with teachers on the importance of autism awareness, talked about the challenges educators face in the classroom due to limited access to training programs, and shared best practices for making effective use of the book. Recognizing the vital role teachers play in each child’s life and the importance of educator well-being, we also provided a digital Teacher Self-Care Guide written by the same author, Andrea Villasmil.
